Say the point clearly without becoming someone else
Direct and softened are both ways of speaking. What matters is whether the last sentence carries the actual request.

Some people open with the conclusion. Others lay down a softer sentence first. Some protect the relationship before the task. Others finish the task and the next step first. What the other person receives is often your order, not your intent.
A long setup can hide the disagreement inside courtesy. A fast direct line can be accurate while the person has not caught up. Both costs are common. Neither is a maturity score.
One habit travels: whatever your lean, put the request in its own sentence. Who, by when, which action. Keep a soft opening if that is you. Keep a firm conclusion if that is you. Do not leave the request dissolved in tone.
Social energy is a different question. Being at ease in a small circle and drained in a large room does not make your communication style wrong. It means the clear sentence belongs in a setting where you still have room to say it.
